Over the winter I really want to try and get comfortable doing crawl rather than breaststroke. Can someone help me with my technique and help me get a training plan so that I can comfortably manage 750m by next season. I can probaly manage about 300m when I do crawl but I can swim breaststroke for 2k.

I'm not a man with great technique but from what I read and have experienced there is nothing better thatn being in the water doing it! Think back to when the olympics were on and how much distance they said that Phelps would cover in his training and warm up, cool down sessions. He's a man training for short distances in the pool. Time in the water will soon bring confidence. Ways I built up were to do 4 lenghts crawl than 1 or 2 breaststroke. Do this over 45mins or an hour and you'll have done a big distance. Do you breathe every 2nd or 3rd stroke? If you breathe every other stroke do you inhale to your left or right? I think I swim well enough to help you and I hope to be at the pool sunday around 4pm. If a different time is better let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Andy, That sounds great but I can't make any Sunday for a while due to races. My main swim session in normally in PLP on Friday at 9pm. Otherwise Sunday the 12th of October would be fine. Ben.

Well! I arrived to find that the training pool was busy this evening??? I wasn't sure by the way that the desk lady worded it if the swimming club was every friday night. Are you training in the leisure pool? I didn't think I would go in just incase it was a wee error. Anyway I'll hopefully see you at pitcairngreen and we can figure out what went wrong.
Ken, maybe I should have listened to you!!

I have been going on Friday nights at 9pm for months untill the last couple of weeks. So its a recent change sorry. I even checked the website this evening before leaving the house. www.liveactive.co.uk/PLP/pool-training.htmI complained that the web site is not up to date. Anyway I have a new time table thats valid from 1st of September and it matches the old one exactly. With the exception of the Friday 9pm - 10pm swim.

Over the summer I've been swimming down at the Stirling University Pool. It is a fantastic pool, offering 25m and 50m sessions (6 lanes, 2m deep), and its at the optimum temperature for training. It costs £4.10 a session. The changing areas are clean and the showers are the best ever. Believe me PLP doesn't even come close! It is well worth the drive down.
Over the winter if we can agree a suitable day (or days) during the week (or even on a monthly basis) we could all go down together.
What do you think? We can catch up tomorrow and discuss.

Alec that sounds like a good plan. Tuesdays and Wednesdays are not good for me but any other day would be fine.
