The arrangements for Sunday the 26th are as follows.
Meet at 07:30 in the Perth Leisure Pool car park. We can sort out who goes with who in the morning, but I'd suggest if you need to get back early then team up with someone who is either quick or is only doing part of the route. From the previous posts we'll have more than enough cars to accommodate everyone.
As far as the groups are concerned, I think we should start as one large group and wait for the groups to automatically form (which will probably happen quite quickly). We can discuss this in more detail before we start.
If you're planning to ride the route non-stop then make sure you bring plenty of drinks and food to eat on-route. You'll need more than a ham sandwich and a bottle of water. Think energy gels (4 or 5) and bars (2 - 3), plus an energy drink (1.5 - 2 litres). In addition, bring something to eat when you finish.
If I think of anything else I'll let you know.
Cheers,
Alec.
PS: Get at early night on Saturday. Save the beer and crisps for Sunday night.

Well what a day! Where do I begin? The weather was unbelievable, only now am I starting to warm up, just in time to go to bed. I'm knackered. A great day which I hope you all enjoyed. What a great turn out as well.
Can I ask that those of you who have ordered a cycling shirt for the Etape could you please pass the £25 to one of the Committee members asap, or my Friday at the latest? Thanks.
Chat soon. Cheers, Alec.

I'm confused A few weeks back I got an email from the Etape organisers with my race number and time: Your Start Time is: 07:26 Your Race Number is: 2259 So, imagine my surprise when I downloaded the start list today after receiving the latest update email from the organisers to find this: Matthew Dunsmore 2259 Etape Caledonia 07:26 N and this: Steven Wilcox 1157 Etape Caledonia 07:12 G Now, I'm sure that Matthew is a jolly nice chap, but I think that there has been a mistake here. My training partner has a 07:26 start time as well and it would have been preferable for us to start together. I've emailed the organisers and got an automated response saying that it could take a week for them to answer. Well, that's not going to help much as I'm sure they'll have other things to worry about next Friday.

Now that pre-race nerves are kicking in, my thoughts are turning to transport. Does anyone have room for 2 people and one bike from Perth up to Pitlochry on Sunday early morning? (and hopefully back in the afternoon) My start time is 07:38 but I am happy to travel with folk starting earlier. I hope to complete the course in 5 hours (weather & legs permitting).
Cheers, Jerry

Woohoo!! ;D Problem sorted. They emailed me back with an apology and changed my start time back to 07:26 I'm confused A few weeks back I got an email from the Etape organisers with my race number and time: Your Start Time is: 07:26 Your Race Number is: 2259 So, imagine my surprise when I downloaded the start list today after receiving the latest update email from the organisers to find this: Matthew Dunsmore 2259 Etape Caledonia 07:26 N and this: Steven Wilcox 1157 Etape Caledonia 07:12 G Now, I'm sure that Matthew is a jolly nice chap, but I think that there has been a mistake here. Who else needs a lift? Can we start a list of who needs a lift and who has a spare seat in a car?
Unfortunately my car is full (4 people and 4 bikes).

Does everyone have a lift organised for Sunday?
A few words of advice:
Check your bike on Saturday morning. Going shopping if you need anything. Pack your bags and bike on Saturday night. Go to bed early on Saturday night, don't stay up late watching the Giro. Get up early on Sunday morning in time to have a proper breakfast - porridge & an expresso works wonders. Get to Pitlochry early. When you get there join the 'pee' queue immediately (bring your own toilet paper). Get to the start line early so you can soak up the atmosphere. Remember to pack enough food and drink to see you round the course - better to have too much than too little. Bring something to eat post-race, restocking your system is essential. When you are out on the road watch for people trying to nip down your left hand side, especially when travelling down hill at speed. If in doubt stay on the left hand side. Remember to pace yourself - think PACE PACE PACE, not RACE RACE RACE. Last but not least, when you get home, have a relaxing bath then down a dozen bottles of cold beer whilst at the same time telling yourself "I deserve this".
See you all at the weekend.
Cheers,
Alec.
