I've decided that next Saturday 4th sept I'm going to cycle to my homeland! My Dad lives at the heart of the lakes in Keswick. 170miles according to google map via the Forth Road Bridge- Kirkliston- Carwrath-Biggar- Abington Moffat- Lockerbie- Gretna- Long town- Carlisle- Bothel- Keswick. I plan to take 14hours? I'm going to do a bit of a video and photos at most of the town signs. I've never done anything this big on the bike so any advice would be good. I not carrying anything with me except the obvious for a long ride, tubes, multi tool, but I'm going to pick up fluids/food at all the towns along the way. Over these distances do I just stick to my long ride fueling (80miles?) or do I need to go over the top with extra consumption? If anyone wants to ride to the bridge with me I'll be leaving Perth around 530am Andy

Andy,
My advice, for what it's worth is:-
DON'T!!!
Serious respect for even considering this. I look forward to the report.

Andy, When you get to Carnwath, make sure you have your certificate handy...you know the one, the certificate that you are sane. Too close to Carstairs for comfort mate.
Good luck!! Cheers Steve

I would rather escape out of England . Any way mind take something to chain up your bike when you got to the shop for sweeties. As its a bit embarrassing sitting on the bus lycra clad if someone nicks yer bike.

I DID IT!!!! 178 miles. 12.5 hours on the bike 14.25 mph. Left Perth at 6am got to Keswick just before 9pm. I'm feeling OK with no lasting damage but the thighs will need a week or two to get over it. Really glad I did something like this and I think I'm over a bit of a psychological barrier on the bike. Not a single problem on the way, just hills.
