Hi folks
i am looking for some advice. it has been suggested to me to keep a training diary to aid progress and improve motivation, which i think sounds like a good idea.
i was wondering if anyone else keeps a diary and if so, what information do you record?
Thanks ;D

I keep a training diary. It sits next to my laptop, so I don't forget to keep it up to date. I try and keep it simple with just enough detail to help maintain a good balance to my training. That way I don't just go out on my bike all the time. Start each training entry with a large initial at the side, indicating what type of session,ie B-bike,S-swim,R-run, G-gym,etc. Then a short list: 1.How long the session was. 2.Distance completed. 3.If it was a timed session(over a regular training route)-time achieved. Obviously helps you to see improvements as the season progresses.Don't fall into the habit of making every session a timed one. 4.How you felt on the session:good, strong, tired, dancin etc. Helps you decide how long before the next session or whether a rest day is required.
Any day which I don't train is marked down as a rest day. This encourages me not to have too many in a row. Come race day you can look back on your dairy and know you've done the hard work. You'll go into the race with additional confidence and belief, with no reason for not doing well and obtaining new PB's. Hope this helps. All the best with your training.

I use the Suunto Training Manager that relates to my heart rate monitor. It keeps all the same info and the data is transmitted via the watch to the comp so no labourious number crunching. Also the morale input can be deceiving. After sessions you think you haven't been great in your heart rate doesn't always give tell the same story. This obviously works the other way to. Web sites like "map my ride" and suuntos movescount.com are good training diaries.

I record my training on Fetcheveryone which is a free website for runners, cyclists, swimmers and triathletes. Initially it was mainly runners that were using this site but is becoming popular for swimmers and cyclists as well. As well as a training log it also allows you to record any race results, has an event fixture list and many other features. The website link can be found at www.fetcheveryone.com/Iain

The training log allows you to export to excel, view as a graph, table or numbers. There are also many other features that I don't tend to use. The race log can be viewed in date order or by age graded performance. I find it a very user friendly site and would recommend it.

I've had enough of this white stuff! I wish it would go as I feel as if I'm a prisoner in my own home. I've got an Ironman to train for.
Anybody else feeling the same or am I simply suffering from SAD syndrome? Wish I had a pair of XC-skis.

Your not aloan Alex. I've been like a bear with a sore head for the last few weeks. We should have been giving it large at Monikie today. But I was kind of glad it was off as i've had a slight man flu thing. We live in hope"THINGS CAN ONLY GET BETTER"

I managed to get outside on the bike last week before the snow returned. Back to the turbo trainer in the garage for now and the dreaded treadmill. Milder temperatures forecast from Wednesday - fingers crossed!
What Ironman event have you entered Alex?

Heading out to Germany with Ken in July to do Challenge Roth. Fancy joining us for the race or even the next 26 weeks of training?

Just had a look at the Challenge Roth website and it looks a great event. Certainly keen to join you for some cycles and runs. I'm hoping to progress to taking part in a long distance event but July would be a bit soon for me. Best wishes in your training and hopefully meet up for a cycle when the snow shifts.

Got back from my ski holiday last night and couldn't believe that I had to dig my way into the house. Meanwhile the alpine slopes are beginning to look a little worn. I'm scared to go near the scales!!!

Charlene, enter the Sprint. There is plenty time to prepare for it, and I am confident that you can have a good crack at it.
